“I will speak Russian fluently” and “I will return once or thrice more to Russia and then some…”
Darren worked in Russia at a holiday summer camp, in the middle of Siberia, for two months without knowing a word of Russian… “I soon learnt to keep my head above water by speaking the basics. Once I came home, I started officially learning Russian at the Vocational Language Learning Centre (VLLC) while finding any way to return… which I did in 2014 when I volunteered at the Sochi Winter Olympics.” Now Darren is completing his Certificate IV in Foreign Language Studies in the Russian language and has found another way to return.

Nigel enjoys his neighbourly stroll, from his work place to the Vocational Language Learning Centre (VLLC) on New Street in North Adelaide, every week. He embraces the conviviality of the French culture and the challenge in learning French in the Certificate IV in Foreign Language Studies. “It gives me an interest outside of work and something different from my usual scientific studies.” The future goal is to travel again to France and spend 3 months there in 2017. “I love France, I love speaking French, my 1 ½ hour tutorials at VLLC with Laurence enable me to maintain and extend my level of fluency.” |
